With a winter storm dropping more than 20 inches of snow in parts of Colorado, it reminds me of a sales tip that I once read.
Snow days are good days to prospect. If you live in an area that gets snow, you should note that many decision-makers are usually the last ones to leave the office...or if the storm is really bad, the only ones to make it in. This could make a difference if you are attempting to reach a person that is impossible to reach. Without receptionists or screeners, your call has a much greater likelihood of getting through.
This tip is from book published last year entitled, "101 Marketing Strategies for Accounting, Law, Consulting and Professional Service Firms," authored by Troy Waugh.
One of his other thoughts...leave voicemails at off hours. When you have solved a problem or a client, or learn of a unique strategy, call the prospects who would benefit at a noticeably odd time...say 11 p.m. Your voicemail can begin, "You know, I was thinking about you when I say this very interesting idea, (and then describe the idea very briefly...and enticingly). When you get a moment, please call me and I can tell you more."
Of course, the idea of the call is to intrigue the prospect enough such that they call you back. The odd hour may be just the trick to do this.
That's all for today. Short and sweet. Have a good one!
